Stem cells and dermal papillary cells are present in all hair follicles and scientists, researching this field of medicine, have looked at hair cloning. Hair cloning involves the removal of hair follicles from the back of the head, replicating them in the laboratory, and then re implant the cells into the balding are of the scalp.

The initial clinical tests showed an encouraging 70% success rate and the treatment are expected to be available by 2010.

A similar treatment is been trialled in the USA, which demonstrates the regeneration of hair follicles. This method re awakens genes which were once active and functional.
Another one for the future?

Photo Bio stimulation of the hair follicle is claimed to be achieved by low level laser therapy, where the hair follicle is stimulated to grow. The evidence for this method appears to be inconclusive, though several companies are applying for FDA approval.
